Chateau Mondesir-Gazin Blaye Cotes de Bordeaux 2016

Organic | Merlot 75% - Malbec 25% is not merely a happy marriage of two grape varieties but of two chalky clay plots: Gazin: on the southern slope and Mondésir on the western slope. Farmed organically for the health of the vines and minimal intervention in the cellar, Laurence and Marc Pasquet ensure wines of expressive character whose minimal sulfites never interfere with their wines, their enjoyment, or their aging but who’s ageing these? This lovely red is redolent of thick skinned fruit (blueberries, black currants, hackberries), cedar and fragrant Japanese hardwood incense –a wine that is flavorsome of all these and of woodsy fruits of the forest with an alpen evergreen element that compliments the whole. What a showcase red to display how only Blaye can blend Merlot and Malbec to incomparable heights all their own –worthy of its own appellation.
