Haut Mondésir 2009 Côtes de Bourg | 14% | Merlot 90% - Malbec 10% | A meaty nose that is fragrant of a Bordeaux of blood and guts. Imagine ripened red and black currants mashed into a pumice and left in this dark place to battle to the death. This is punchy, flexing and writhing in a dynamic tension of fruit and texture –much like my collegehood memory seems to recall Bordeaux began for me before exposure and the regions evolution toward immediate fruit took hold. No this is heftier I daresay wild with a compelling character that does not take anything sitting down –a bold unapologetic blend of Merlot and Malbec true to Côtes de Bourg. Yes sir may I have another glass? This will sort out your wimpy misconceptions of right bank Bordeaux being the softer side –things are afoot!
