Mount Eden Chardonnay Wolff Vineyard 2009
The Pattersons have been making Chardonnay from this vineyard since 1985 with the same care they use making their world class Santa Cruz estate cuvee. And what a vineyard! Originally planted in 1976 it is the oldest vineyard in Edna Valley and has one of the longest growing seasons in the world, budding in February and not harvested until October. Such hang-time is responsible for the layers of delicious flavors presented in each bottle. Barrel fermented and aged 10 months of the lees, this wine always shows plenty of lemon cream on the nose with a bit of oak spice. The palate has plenty of density without any fat – lemony, a teensy bit of pineapple, a little toasty hazelnut and bit of an herbal note along with the acidity to balance. Absolutely delicious and a total steal.
