Mount Eden Estate 2011 Pinot Noir, Santa Cruz | | Mount Eden vines are all direct descendants of clonal cuttings from Louis Latour dry farmed in Franciscan shale according to their sustainable methods. From the smallest vineyard they have –a low yielding 6 ½ acres in the center of the property, this Pinot Noir is more of a Volnay shoulder rub for all its frankincense soaring above red and black cherries, woodsy sassafras, and that fragrant tangy wintergreen nuance of perfectly ripened sea urchin –a real marvel of a marvelous Pinot Noir unique to America but with a great nod to Burgundy.
