Mount Eden Cabernet Sauvignon Estate 2014

Mount Eden Estate 2009 Cabernet Sauvignon, Santa Cruz | 14.2%| Mount Eden vines for these Bordeaux blends are all direct descendants of clonal cuttings from Chateau Margaux replicated in their proportions and the La Questa Vineyard: 88% Cabernet Sauvignon, 6% Merlot, 4% Cabernet Franc, 2% Petit Verdot –all dry farmed in Franciscan shale according to their sustainable methods. Among the best Bordeaux blends out of California I’ve ever tried –funny for me because I wrongly think of Mount Eden Estate as a Chardonnay and Pinot Noir house. This is smoking! That cassis and spice box but that cedar berry and pine boughs of California –the best of both worlds with ample Claret like tannins, a real architecture to it all. To drive home just how “estate” this wine was grown, fermented and bottled 2000 feet above the Santa Clara Valley floor in the Santa Cruz Mountains.
Wine review by Nicholas Livingston, Friday, February 14, 2014 (Fruit)

This wine is an extravagant combination of our thirty plus year old mountain vineyard and a naturally generous vintage. Just coming together after two full years in the bottle, its deep, layered, racy flavors of blackberry, herb and cassis are, as always, presented with great balance and pedigree. This bottling is a blend of eighty-eight percent Cabernet Sauvignon, six percent Merlot, four percent Cabernet Franc and two percent Petit Verdot.
