Durdilly Beaujolais 2016

Pretty violet Gamay in all its juicy fruit, this bears a floral fragrance that echoes on the palate among all the red fruit that all meet up at the finish with a little wisp of white pepper. Domaine Durdilly is a small family-run estate that raise the Gamay variety in the southern part of the Beaujolais region just outside the town of Le Bois d’Oingt. In a region where negociants abound making Beaujolais in the stroke of a broad brush, Durdilly captures our eye for personal attention, because this is entirely estate-bottled Beaujolais. Moreover these are harvested by hand and transformed by the local yeasts brought to fermentation on the bloom of the grape vines and in those ambient in the cellar –making truly distinctive Beaujolais that are also complete bargains compared to other such estate Beaujolais. Its lasting impression? That no matter what goes into making this complex little wonder, Les Grands Coasses is simply a charm to drink –and drink a great deal of!
