Poliziano Rosso di Montepulciano 2018

I think Rosso di Montepulciano is one of the top three or four wine bargains in the world. Made from the same properties and vineyards as Vino Nobile di Montepulciano, it tends to show the same sexy style as it’s “big boy” sibling, but without the price tag and without waiting five years for it to taste really really good. Sangiovese from these hills burst forth with raspberry yumminess combined with firm tannins and great acid structure. The finish on this youngster is bright and puckery, which will calm down over time I’m sure but for right now it reminds me of really good pizza sauce. Speaking of which, I can’t imagine a better wine to have with pizzas flying out of the wood fired oven. Delicious!

Food Pairings

Seriously anything tomatoey sings with Sangiovese, pizza and pasta to be sure. Sausages, chicken, gazpacho. Bread salad.
