Dom Diogo Arinto Vinho Verde 2017

Dom Diogo Arinto Vinho Verde DOC, Portugal

AT A GLANCE

o 100% Arinto from Dom Diogo, the varietal line of Quinta da Raza, this showcases the native variety’s characteristic charms: attractively fruity, appealingly crisp with a complex fragrance which continues rich and intense finish.

o Delicious served with seafood, fish, poultry and light meals. It is particularly pleasant with pasta and risotto dishes.

o A conscientious estate dating back to 1769 embracing modern techniques and regional traditions with a holistic view of their environment.

o Grown in the Basto sub-appellation, Raza comes from the slopes in the east protected from the Atlantic rains and subject to greater sunshine

“The 2015 Arinto Dom Diogo is an unoaked Colheita Selecionada coming in at 12% alcohol and nine grams per liter of residual sugar. It was sourced from 12-year-old vines. Surprisingly full-bodied, this has wonderfully tasty fruit to go with a nice, crisp feel. There is a hint of green in the background. Its underlying acidity and fruit are in perfect balance, though. The wine tastes great, but it always seems precise and focused, too. It should be a fine value on the street. There were 5,000 cases produced.”

“This increasingly interesting producer works in the Basto sub-region of Vinho Verde. They describe that as a region that is a bit sunnier than some and less rainy, which is "an important factor for the development of the vine." The average altitude is 250 meters above sea level, with mostly granitic soil (but some schist and clay). These are all rather nice, helped along by the fine 2015 vintage. They are well priced, too, not to mention fresh and non-fizzy. They are more like traditional table wines.”
