Ricasoli Chianti del Barone 2013

One of the great things about Italy is the history of many of the wineries, often times going back centuries. (Go to Napa Valley and you'll hear "We're one of the oldest in the valley, founded in 1972!) Ricasoli, located in the heart of Chianti, is the oldest winery in all of Italy. Let me repeat that: the oldest! The name Ricasoli has been linked to wine since 1141, when the Brolio Castle passed into the hands of the Ricasoli family. Neat stuff. This wine is the basic Chianti of Ricasoli, comprised of 90% sangiovese and 10% other indigenous varietals. Fresh and clean, coming from stainless steel aging, with loads of bright bing cherry and mellow peppery spice. Medium bodied and excessively versatile when it comes to food pairings. Red sauces, pan fried poultry, subtle beef dishes, or just a wedge of good cheese.
