Sattler Zweigelt 2013

Sattler 2013 Zweigelt, Burgenland, Austria | 12.5% | From the gravel soils with brown earth and sand, this is Zweigelt zum Neusiedlersee with floral violet high notes and plummy depths, this is a juicy medium bodied Zweigelt true to all the brambly tart blackberry fruit and white pepper of the Zweigelt variety but so much fleshier and winsome than most. An engaging wit of a wine whose nonchalance doesn’t belie its keen eyes or pert personality. The finish is refreshing and lingers with ground pepper and fresh tart blackberries. To our man Terry Theise, he noted from early cask samples that it “seems to go more in the tobacco and raspberry directions, more dust and Cab Franc than roses and Barbera.”

Food Pairings

There are few red wines as perfect with lighter, casual foods. Chicken, pizza, pasta, burgers and most takeout.
