Heidi Schrock Rose Biscaya 2012

Heidi Schrock 2012 Rosé Biscaya, Burgenland | 13% | From the warm continental (what they call Pannonian) climate of Neusiedlersee-Huggeland in Burgenland –Austria’s eastern most wine region pressed against the Hungarian frontier, this is labeled as made of Merlot, St. Laurent, Cabernet Sauvignon although Heidi admits to using eight varieties in all –each in supporting roles. It’s a coppery pink with a fragrant headful of strawberry, saltwater taffy –in a watering-at-the-corners-of-the-mouth almost saline sort of way. From this we run through an understory of ferns beneath a late spring forest under leaf. The palate is invigorating with ample red fruit and also in a savory and herbal way built for tucking into the table. A real pleasure and a wine all its own.

(please note that the Furmint label is mistakenly showing up -not the image we posted but the result of some ghost in the machine ...ooOOoooOoOO!)

Food Pairings

Think of the elegant end of Pinot Noir foods; salmon, veal as in Oscar or Blanquette de Veau. Chicken and game birds.
