Most know Furmint as the great grape of the legendary dessert wine Tokaji Aszu but its talents don’t end there. Only small amounts of high quality dry Furmint are being made at this point but the best wines from Tokaji and Somlo are exemplars of what can be done. The wine is fragrant with white flowers, lime, quince and maybe even Sarrano ham. The flavours are surprisingly complex given the weight of the wine; oatmeal, butter, citrus ranging from lime to tangerine. But the finish is the killer; long, minerals, shimmering.
