Shaya Verdejo 2010
Ah, what a fresh young white made from old vines! Shaya shows the mineral abilities of Rueda as a region. Beautiful curlicue nose with the citric scents of lemons and fresh apricots. Bright, snappy apple acids, a polished texture over the midpalate with a lifted lime and floral top note, Shaya shows to great effect how Verdejo can lift into a nice sap to round out the finish –just what I want with pulpo, sushi, mackerel, or a Spanish seafood stew of clams, mussels, fleshy fish and a savory tomato broth.
Wine review by Nicholas D. Livingston, January 2012
100% old vine Verdejo. How can you not like this wine?! Beautiful stonefruit nose, lush and round on the palate. Floral yet nice almond-y finish with a touch of spice. Crisp and clean finish with great acidity. Great wine with shellfish, grilled veggies and anything fruit based. 13.5% alc.
