Boroli Barbera d'Alba Quattro Fratelli 2007
Catch but a glimpse of its deep, dark color and this is sure to be one of the heftiest Barbera d’Alba to date. The nose is dense with low and luring notes of spice box, flower petals and cherry pits after that uniquely Piemontese fashion. Is it a matter of the fruit behind these varietal wines or the land of this region itself? A combination to be sure. On the palate it is tightly spun and vibrant with tarred notes melding with cherries, spices and a textural tannin that reinforces that cherry pit nuance lending this so much character. Well structured, broadly textured and perhaps more savory than other Barbera d’Alba, this “Quattro Fratelli” beckons for feasting and has the pluck to stand up to rich lamb, tomato heavy sauces, and perhaps most especially the gifted gastronomia [that’s charcuterie for you Francophone chefs out there] for which Italy is rightly proud. Foodie wine par excellance. 14% alcohol by volume.
