Tedeschi Valpolicella Lucchine 2011
Lighter on its feet, this is a nimble and dazzling Valpolicella. Made from 25% Corvina, 25% Corvinone, 30% Rondinella, 10% Molinara, 10% Rossignola, Negrara, Dindarella from 25 year old vineyards, this is all the more engaging for elaboration in stainless steel preserving all the crunchy red currants and bright cherry notes for which Valpolicella is classically appreciated…
Medium ruby, 12.5% surprises me from its viscous legs and minty herbal lift but the fruit is nimble akin to red currants, rhubarb, and tart cherries. A wild child in its youth undaunted by the weights of the world, this is young with bright ricocheting acidity and sneaky tannins. The fruit is primary cherries and currants and finishes lifted and bright under ripe black plum. A good true blue example of simple Valpolicella that is drinking just right but would be more comfortable pulling up its chair to antipasti than just sipping on its own. True to type.
