Twin Islands Sauvignon Blanc 2012
The history of New Zealand Sauvignon Blanc shows a pendulum swing from the extreme 'old school' of bell pepper and cat pee to the 'modern' world of ripeness and even a touch of oak. These extreme swings are fun to watch and see, as some companies try to ride a wave (and inevitably fall off the board). Right down the middle of the tracks is the way to describe this wine, with the fresh intensity we expect from a Kiwi Sauvignon (grapefruit dominated, touch of lemon oil, wet stone) and a mouthfeel that is round and rich but not causes by any wood vessel. Almost like Gruner Veltliner in its mouthfeel, this is right at home with green veggie dishes or goat cheeses. Super yum.
