Two Angels Petite Sirah 2008

Petite Sirah is an awkward beast, often reminding me of a 400 pound linebacker on the dance floor. No matter how smooth he is, no matter how in the groove he's feeling, he is and forever will be BIG. Thus, Petite Sirah with a sense of style and panache is rare bird indeed, but this is one. Clocking in at a moderated 14.1% (note, moderate by Petite Sirah standards) it has all the uber concentrated black fruit goodness you expect from this varietal, but with a lift of higher tones (violets and graphite) countering the weight. The palate is extraordinary. Succulent, lush, and a touch minerallly. Making good (big) Petite Sirah is easy, but making great (balanced) Petite Sirah is a rarity. Kudos to Two Angels for showing it can be done right. - Note by Jason Kallsen, May 2013.
