Udaca Dom Divino Dao White 2012

Udaca Dom Divino Dão 2012
The dry whites of Portugal might be the best kept secret in the new wine world order. Thanks to evolving technology and winemaking know-how finally reaching the far corners of traditionally-minded Portugal, the whites that are being exported have never been better. These are wines that will never sell easily on their own, for the varieties used are unknown to everybody in the world outside of Portugal. So a certain amount of intrinsic curiosity must possess the drinker. You cannot enter into a wine like this with expectations, only hopes.

Starbright in color even with three years of age from the vintage (tasting in March of 2015). Bright bursts of apricot blossom, underripe stone fruit, and green apple are all in the light to medium bodied aroma. On the palate, the wine expands to include a broad swath of white fruits with a touch of lime squeezed on top. Wines of this type of build are rare indeed, and this a great way to take a Sauvignon Blanc lover by the hand and show him or her a world they might be missing out on.
