Vietti Barbera d'Alba Scarrone 6/750 2009

From the vines that Luca Currado’s grandfather planted to Barolo territory, this Barbera is non pareil. It is the oldest stand of Barbera vines in all of Piedmont and in this case the DOCG region within Barolo -NB all Vietti landholdings could be called Barolo if only they planted Nebbiolo everywhere but over the years they have recognized they have parcels that warrant other Piemontese grapes -such as this Barbera that shows red plums and cherries, cedar and pepper, a deep and resounding body in a compelling whole that is in one word: GLORIOUS.

"...impresses for its sleek, refine personality. This is an interesting wine in the way it melds the radiance of a warm year with the medium-bodied structure of a cooler vintage. Soft red berries, flowers and licorice are some of the notes that are woven together in this focused, articulate Barbera."
