Vietti Roero Arneis 2013

Arneis might be my favorite white in the 'obscure grapes' category. Consistently delivering a wallop of interesting white fruits on the nose and firm structure on the palate, it's kinda the perfect wine in many ways. This vintage from Vietti is stunning. Complete aromatic complexity (green pear, almond, lilac blossom, and touch of apple) that comes beautifully unfolding out of the glass. With a bit of air more details are released (especially citric aromas). The palate is extraordinary: grippy on one hand, lifting on the other. The acid is fresh and kicking but the body is richer than things like Pinot Grigio. I had this wine at the winery served with tiny fish that were lightly battered and fried, topped with a touch of sea salt. The fish were served in a paper bag, popcorn style, and with this wine it made for a glorious afternoon. - Tasting note by Jason Kallsen, November 2013
