Cono Sur Viognier 2013

Cono Sur 2012 Bicicleta Viognier, Valle de Colchagua | 13.5% | Certified Carbon Neutral | Standing proud as a vivacious Viognier in the face of the viscous alternatives, this is more tangerine and mandarin in fragrance than the telltale stone fruit of Viognier but on the finish a firm peach and wisp of fresh apricot rise through an otherwise floral finish. Strangely enough, this refreshing, crisp white at this stage in its development could nearly pass as a southern Burgundy from Macon during a warm vintage, a Roussanne from the southern Rhône, or a more restrained and structured Albariño from Rias Baixas because it actually preserved its structure and is lighter and leaner than most softer and oily Viogniers out there. Still an absolute delight –just a curveball judging it against my expectations in terms of typicity.
