Altano Douro Red Portuguese Table Wine 2017

Altano 2011 Douro | SUSTAINABLE | 13.5% | Tinto Roriz and Touriga Franca |What a chewy and bold Portuguese red –that breathes and tastes of black plums and cocoa! Delicious. Douro was the first demarcated wine region in all the world in 1756. It is a labyrinth of terraced vineyards of pure schist –like a radiant oven to ripen these deep red grapes. A warm wind passes over this part of Douro and they call this wine Altano after this wind. Even despite the heat and hot breezes the wine has a great sense of balance and is even pretty with a lifted spice on along the finish.

A lush and creamy style, with concentrated flavors of raspberry tart, dark cherry and boysenberry, accented by notes of chocolate.
The silky finish lingers with a rich, mocha detail. Drink now through 2019.—K.M.
