Wrongo Dongo 2011

Monastrell to Jumilla is what Mourvèdre is to Bandol –except Monastrell is Spain’s name for this variety the French call Mourvèdre and Jumilla never ever makes this into rosé as Bandol can do so well. Bandol however is great at harvesting deep black clusters that yield dark red wines but seldom to the ripe spice found in those from Jumilla. Black plums and licorice pipes greet the nose and carry onto the palate augmented by a brambly berry and a cedar note somehow temper the tannins despite their chunky knit. It is a big wine of hefty dimension but still balanced for the table so all are happy.
