Haut Lagrange | Chateau
This new estate was created in 1989 by M. Boutemy, who is proof of ingeniosity of which there is no equal; inventor of the machine to pick grapes as if by hand, he would not hesitate to block up his pool for a refining station!...His wines are full of character, each vintage more profound than the previous. Finesse and a fabulous balance are assets of this promising vineyard.
Château Haut Lagrange lies on the outskirts of Bordeaux, at the heart of the Pessac-Léognan appellation. The château is surrounded by the most prestigious classed growths (crus classés) of the appellation. The experience acquired by Francis Boutemy, the meticulous care which is applied to both the growing and winemaking aspects, the historic terroir, controlled yields - all these things contribute to making Château Haut Lagrange a great wine among the greats. Francis Boutemy is the president of the Graves Wine Council, Commander of the Bontemps de Médoc et des Graves Wine Brotherhood and correspondent of the Bordeaux Wine Academy. His wife Catherine is one of the twelve members of the Aliénor du Vin de Bordeaux association.
The 44 acre vineyard of Château Haut Lagrange is situated on a typical terroir of gravel, pebble, silicon and rough sand rich in organic matter; the subsoil is limestone and chalky. The 'sous-solage'(an explosion through the subsoil to more than a meter in depth)and the drainage prevent an excess of water.
