Domaine Carillon Chasssagne Montrachet 1er Cru les Macherelles 2011

François Carillon 2011 Chassagne-Montrachet 1er Cru Les Macherelles, Côte de Beaune | 13.5% | Completely surprising to me given my prejudice for mineral Puligny, this slice of Chassagne-Montrachet is gracious, elegant, sapid and fragrant. Les Macherelles is the 1er Cru lieu dit immediately northeast of the town of Chassagne with only little corners of the small 1er Cru parcels of Les Chenevottes, Les Bondues, and the appellation status Blanchot Dessus between Les Macherelles and the illustrious Le Montrachet itself. Les Macherelles is known as one of the richest among the great 1er Cru Chassagne-Montrachets but this Carillon Les Macherelles from his less than an acre and a half is far racier, dynamic and perfumed than most any I can recall. Penetrating, beguiling and despite its dry extract it is refreshing and nimble –a remarkable white Burgundy of the highest order. Truly Chassagne in scent and sapidity but lifted like fresh mint and firm ripened pears.

17.8/20 | 2011 CHASSAGNE-MONTRACHET PREMIER CRU MACHERELLES
A typical perfumed Chassagne nose. Much less powerful than the series of preceding Pulignys, more mineral and vegetal and less ripe. Some pears and mint, though with a bit of green tea on the finish.
