Casisano Brunello di Montalcino 2016
Brunello di Montalcino is rightly a DOCG because although Brunello is a clone of Sangiovese variety (of which we’re already especially fond) it has more of everything one anticipates from Sangiovese. You like the Sangiovese of Chianti for all its earthen, fruity, tealeaf and spice but yearn for more depth, tannin and structure? You have found a region and a clone well matched to your penchants. Barrique aging also lends a whole new spectrum –and makes these all the more enjoyable earlier on without which Brunello’s concentrated character might require years to unwind and reveal its charms.
Food Pairings
Seriously anything tomatoey sings with Sangiovese, pizza and pasta to be sure. Sausages, chicken, gazpacho. Bread salad.
