Chateau Laulerie Bergerac Malbec 2018

Unlike the Malbec of the cooler Loire or the blended Bordeaux, Malbec in the deeper South West of France likes to be heard loud and clear which is wonderful because when grown in these parts it has so much to say. Dark and deeply ripened, this tannic variety is robust, at times rustic, at others strikingly elegant despite its profile as more earthen mineral than fruit driven. Prefer savoury to sweet, complexity to earnest affability, a lens to the soil rather than to the cellar masters’ toolbox? Malbec is engaging, serious but charming, is an arresting delight with rich meals, and a worthy glass on its own.

Food Pairings

Fajitas, chili, spicy foods. Indian or Mexican. Beef, lamb or pork most anyway but especially on the grill. Burgers and sausages.
