Darnaud Crozes Hermitage Mise en Bouche 2017

Emmanuel Darnaud 2012 Mise en Bouche Crozes-Hermitage | 13% | 100% Syrah | Either way this juicy Syrah is every bit as thirst slaking but that Emmanuel has named it with instructions is charming as Mise en Bouche literally means Put it in your mouth and it’s what we all love to do with Crozes-Hermitage –the largest of the Northern Rhône’s appellations. Even though this is younger and still the wide eyed counterpart to Emmanuel’s older and wiser and daresay wizened Les Trois Chênes this picks up the telltale leitmotifs of Crozes-Hermitage of roses and snappy red plums, garrigue and other savory, resinous herbs –but the overall expression is still that of young muscle, a finer bone structure –even a bell-clear singing voice before it drops at adolescence. Tannins and even the overall nose are velvety and urge one to tongue their cheek. This is a fun Syrah of the Northern Rhône that doesn’t insist on crossing its arms and brooding like Byron. This is alive and makes all in its company feel all the more alive in its presence.
