Gaillard Cote-Rotie 2010

Such a pretty Côte Rôtie with heady scents of roses, black peppers, plums, and cherries. Lovely doesn’t begin to describe it. How does this giant of a man make such remarkably graceful Syrah? It lives up to the savory core and the densely packed fruit of Côte Rôtie but then it is the very picture of poise with lofty and nimble high notes of roses and violets, the sweet fermented scents of peppercorns to go as far as being downright pretty! If this wine were human you could not take your eyes off of it –but it’s a wine so one cannot stop drinking it. Merci M. Gaillard!

The 2010 Cote Rotie Classique offers sweet, ripe tannins in addition to black raspberry and cassis fruit intermixed with loamy soil, bouquet garni and incense. Ripe and medium to full-bodied, with better integrated oak, it, too, should be drunk over the next decade. -Robert Parker
