Gamling & McDuck Poor & In Love Chenin Blanc

Blanchet 2014 Vieilles Vignes Pouilly Fumé | 13% | Clear and clean as fresh as French milled soap with a fresh sorrel zip and a lemon zest all bound up in tension and rich ballerina musculature –svelte but sinuous like elegant green hawthorn roots snappy firm and fragrant with a welcomed bitter green underscoring the fruit and a coconut water note. Absolutely refreshing with that vetiver nettle like Sauvignon Blanc note on the finish. Planted in 1961 to this plot of Kimmeridgian limestone and clay marls these old vines now serve as a revelator of each Loire vintage proving 2014 to be fresh and focused, mineral driven, architectural and daresay gothic with a soaring angularity and plenty of bright character. Often the Vieilles Vignes is the relatively softer and ripe of the three Pouilly-Fumé that we bring in from Blanchet but this is proving to be an invigorating and nervy little number –and delicious for it.
