Shafer One Point Five Cabernet Sauvignon 2017

“The glass comes alive with aromas of crushed red and black summer berries, rose petal and herbs. In the mouth the generous, lush black and red fruits integrate enticingly with sage, tobacco leaf, smoke and black spice all wrapped within a structure of ripe Stags Leap District tannins. The finish is long and pleasurable.” —Elias Fernandez, winemaker

Expert Review

91+ Points - Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar, May/Jun 14
"(15.1% alcohol): Bright ruby-red. Aromas of mulberry, licorice and graphite become increasingly musky with aeration. Pungent and tightly coiled but still supple, showing good energy and cut to the blackberry and cassis flavors. Intensely flavored even if it doesn't have the density or sweetness of a top vintage. The smoky, slowly building finish shows sweet tannins. A bit unyielding today but very successful for the year."

90 Points - Connoisseurs' Guide to California Wine, August 2014
"5% Petit Verdot; 3% Malbec. Deep, dense and a bit brooding on the nose with a strong impression of substance and extract, the
Shafer One Point Five is a gutsy, impressively filled wine that keeps Cabernet in its sights from first sniff to finish. It is fully ripe
and teams ample fruit with lots of rich oak while hinting here and there at loamy earth and briary spice, but aggressive tannins come on fairly strong at the finish and leave enough toughness in their wake to warn off drinking without waiting for at least a
half-dozen more years."

Food Pairings

Meat, meat, meat but especially lamb and beef. Game birds, duck, goose, squab. Anything with lots of rosemary.
