Eyrie Chardonnay Estate 2018

Semillon has an enchanting character but is somehow unknowable; like the dark haired, dark eyed cousin you'd see across the room at infrequent gatherings of the much extended family.

I was very anxious to taste this. There are so few Semillon outside of Australian ones and for me all others pale when taken against the Bordeaux blanc in which the varietal is an essential component.

Mostly I identify Semillon aromas as those of shrimp cooking water but The Novelty Hill Semillon is much finer, not quite so obvious; white flowers, lemon custard and parafin. In the mouth it has a nice weightiness and silken texture. The flavours are mineral, Bosq pear and an elusive savor that is mouthwatering.
