Barraud | Domaine

Daniel, Martine Barraud and their son Julien are located in Vergisson, one of the four communes for the appellation of Pouilly-Fuissé. In fact, they are directly under the rock of Vergisson, where they have some of the best vineyard sites of the A.O.C.

These wines are not your typical Maçonnais. There has been a renaissance in this appellation. Barraud is one producer leading the new regime, making wine like producers in the Côte d'Or but still with the signature of Mâcon terroir. The Barrauds only replant with root stocks propagated from their own vineyards. They are late-pickers and achieve great depth and richness in their wines. The vintage dictates how they work with lees, stirring more or less according to the skin quality. Following a very judicious aging in barrel, all wines will be bottled without filtration or fining for the maximum in purity and expressiveness.

Often referred to as "Gold of the Earth", Pouilly-Fuissé is a "Grand Vin Blanc de Bourgogne" made from the Chardonnay grape variety. You will appreciate its particularly powerful and rich bouquet. It is the ideal match for seafood as well as white meats and poultry.

Barraud makes six different Pouilly-Fuissé wines from different parcels of land. Each wine has its own personality that reflects the very soil from which it originates, thereby faithfully expressing its respective terroir.

"I have said this many times but it's worth repeating: Daniel Barraud is without question one of the finest growers in all of the Mâconnais and there is a credible argument to be made that his remarkable consistency vaults him right to the very top of the list. Yes, there are other fine growers who sometimes make wines equal to those of Barraud but this man almost never misses. And as the scores and reviews suggest, both his 2007s and 2006s deserve to be in your cellars." -Allen Meadows, Burghound
