Alexander Valley Vineyards

avv-alexander-cabernetNineteenth century pioneer Cyrus Alexander explored Northern Sonoma County and settled the fertile valley now named for him, selecting pristine acreage for his own residence. More than one hundred years later, in 1962, Harry and Maggie Wetzel purchased Alexander’s homestead from his heirs.

Today the Wetzel family estate is home to Alexander Valley Vineyards, a prominent, family owned and operated vineyard and winery. They grow fourteen grape varieties, on diverse sites stretching from the banks of the Russian River up onto the hillsides. Each grape variety is matched to a specific soil type and exposure.

The winery now produces 100,000 cases annually, including ten varietal wines and five proprietary blends. Barrel fermentation and aging take place in the 14,000 square foot cave, where the cool, constant temperature and high humidity are ideal for aging wines.
