Argyle Brut 2011

Argyle 2011 Vintage Brut, Willamette Valley | Small batch, bottle fermented sparkling wine is seldom this good for such a song –especially sparkling wine made from 60% Pinot Noir and 40% Chardonnay that are disgorged on demand as all at Argyle are wont to be. What a marvelous wine! Quince preserves and membrillo paste greet the nose in an immediately appealing way. These join white cherries on an engaging palate as chuck-on-the-shoulder as your dearest friend for life –this could even lure die hard wine adherents from other categories. Like mineral driven whites? Here’s a chalky snap in spades. Is it aromatics you prefer? How about floral acacia blossoms and heady pan bloomed coriander seed. So it’s fruit you want? Here you’ll find fresh apricots and pears and quince all held in tension with a trembling mineral acidity both ethereal and immensely powerful. Perhaps the best vintage Argyle I’ve had.

Expert Review

90 Wine Spectator
Light and appealing, with an airy texture and smoky, toasty watermelon and floral flavors, finishing with expressiveness and length. –HS
