Avignonesi Rosso di Toscana 2008

Find me in Tuscany and you'll notice I'll be sitting at a cafe with friends necking bottles of this amazing Sangiovese. Like my favorite Guernsey sweater it warms the man, is appropriate for just about every social setting, and (though fine for most things off the grill) it has been poised all year long just waiting for these autumnal nights where you add another blanket rather than shut the window and the foods we prepare begin to take a heartier turn. From a judicious duration in oak barrels, this is Sangiovese's softer side -never would Avignonesi take the edgy and nervy gioia di vivere from the variety! No, this is still poised for food pairings and any table you might set. It's just a bit calmer and more familiar -rocking its back into your company with tea leaves, plum fruit, cloves and evergreen spices in an elegant red of marked finesse.
