Bouchard Gevrey-Chambertin 2009

What does this evoke? Dark forests where the pines and understory offer a cool, damp comfort to the fortunate traveler walking through –who might remark how lovely it would be to build a home and a life here. Gevrey Chambertin is so often built up in our minds and certainly the Burgundiphile press who scrutinize all that come from the hallowed Cotes de Nuits but seldom do they speak so eloquently, true to type and fulfill our expectations. This is baritone Burgundy with an athletic charm, a ready demeanor, and yet with something of a brooding side beneath its disarming smile. Darker fruits and even darker spices meld in a wine of deep character worthy of the name Gevrey Chambertin. Bouchard somehow bests better again inspiring awe from one who already thought they were atop their game.
