Bouchard Chassagne-Montrachet Blanc 2012

Bouchard Père & Fils 2012 Chassagne-Montrachet, Côte-d’Or | 13% | Estate bottled at Bouchard’s Château de Beaune from Chardonnay planted to the east-southeast limestone marl of the slopes surrounding the village of Chassagne, this is penetrating white Burgundy with a richness kept firmer than Meursault and steely in structure but with its edges burnished far beyond the rapier like Chablis further north. Chassagne is the gifted village in the southern Côte de Beaune in the south of the Côte-d’Or and famous for sharing the Grand Cru of Le Montrachet with Puligny –to whom it has hitched its name.

What is marvelous of fine Chassagne-Montrachet like this is that it brings some of the mineral streak in the style of Puligny but between the floral orchard fruit and the waxy dry extract, this is riper and daresay a bit plusher than its high cheek boned neighbor. Aromas of apples and Anjou pears unite in a sapid flavor that washes over every corner with its fragrant floral charm –beckoning for fish in cream sauce, tender veal, or a relaxing evening on its own.
