Sharing some of the granite slopes of Hermitage and offering some of the stony alluvial terraces that foster deep ripening Syrah, Crozes Hermitage southerly slopes yield serious Syrah all the more concentrated by the Mistral breezes that blow as if aware that their winds were focusing the bright plum fruit, violets, pepper, and subtle at times overt meaty bacon fat characteristics that set the Northern Rhone apart. Seldom as flexed as Hermitage, Crozes Hermitage is often easier in its younger years despite its ability to cellar a while.
