Hofer Zweigelt 2011

H & M Hofer 2011 Zweigelt, Weinland, Österreich | 12.5% | This is an outstanding estate Zweigelt that not only comes in a liter bottle (33% more wine!) but it is certified Organic to boot! In fact, the Hofers farm their 50 acres of loss, loam and clay slopes just north of Vienna according to Biodynamic principles which make these such astonishing values. Fragrant, vinous and polished, this is Zweigelt at the more elegant end of the spectrum with quieter white pepper scents, an appetizing wisp of fresh celeriac, plenty of crunchy red fruit and gentler tannins that make this a real thirst slaking sort of red capable of taking a slight chill and an absolute dream with lighter fare, bouillabaisse, cioppino, simply prepared pork tenderloin or grilled fish.
