Bastor Lamontagne Sauternes 2001

On tasting, Chateau Bastor-Lamontagne 2001 displays richness and remarkable complexity. Aged on its fermentation lees; the wine shows the subtle aromas of citrus fruit, such as grapefruit and crystallized lemon with hints of vanilla coming from barrel ageing. The texture is tight on the palate reflecting the density of the botrytis and the vintage’s concentration. Fat and full without being heavy because of the wines good acidity, great freshness. Powerful and spicy in the finish.

Expert Review

Possibly the finest effort I have ever tasted from this estate, Bastor Lamontagne’s light gold-colored 2001 is a tropical fruit cocktail offering abundant quantities of apricot, lychee, honeysuckle, and other tropical fruit characteristics with little evidence of oak. Excellent acidity, which provides tremendous definition, and a lusty, heady finish suggest this fun sweetie will drink well now and over the next 10-14 years. A sleeper of the vintage.
