Ascheri 2010 Fontanelle Barbera d’Alba
Six months in large Slavonian oak casks rounds out the buoyant Barbera to a smoky plum and meaty cherry fruit. The fragrant palate and lasting finish bears an aromatic hardwood like the aloe wood incense burned at Japanese temples –not a sticky oily incense but a lifted, clean and woodsy fragrance. Absolutely echoes across the palate like (to borrow a phrase from Evelyn Waugh) a coin ringing on the counter.
