Pibarnon Bandol Rouge 2005

Is there any better Bandol in the whole wide world? Certainly none with more Mourvedre. Domaines Tempier and Domaines Bunan are fine but neither embrace the nature of Mourvedre in the compelling way of Pibarnon. From the glass wafts savory notes of meat pan juices, plums and cherries. the palate echoes all of these and lends a mineral structure -perhaps from the limestone marl on which the vines were grown. The structure is nimble and cheery despite showing the soft spoken tannins that could surely develop new depths over time in a cool cellar. This is the sort of red allures, satisfies and makes you pine for more.

Expert Review

"95 points - An intense and focused red, with concentrated mineral, plum and dark cherry that are flanked by tobacco box notes. Lithe yet powerful, with a long, elegant and finely chiseled finish of slate and white pepper. Drink now through 2015."
