Poliziano Rosso di Montepulciano 2011

Rosso di Montepulciano achieved the DOC classification in 1989. It can be produced by simply downgrading grapes that are classified as Vino Nobile. At Poliziano however, they decided not to compromise. They selected a number of vineyards with particular characteristics in order to obtain a wine that is young, fruity, full-bodied but not hard; a selection that has allowed Poliziano to classify their Rosso di Montepulciano as the "Second Wine" of the Poliziano Winery –setting them head and shoulders above the other Rosso di Montepulciano available.
80% Sangiovese – 20% Merlot planted to clay marl, fermented in stainless steel and then refined over a period of 8 months -20-40% of the product in second-use "barriques" of American oak, and the remainder is refined in vats. The round result is traditional but clean with bright, fresh strawberry, cherry and tobacco on the nose and a juicy yet structured impression in the mouth with a touch of blackberry and mushroom on the finish. Seriously killer value!

Food Pairings

Seriously anything tomatoey sings with Sangiovese, pizza and pasta to be sure. Sausages, chicken, gazpacho. Bread salad.
