Sierra Cantabria Crianza 2007

In the world of wine, Rioja is an anomaly: a region that ages their wines appropriately before release and often shows all the glorious aspects of secondary and tertiary development. In other words, this rocks. All sorts of ripe red and black fruit form the base of the aromas, but is carried along by cola spices, a touch of dill (from the oak), and super detailed pepper hints without being truly peppery. Know what I mean? The mouthfeel is smooth as silk, and the finish just goes and goes. This would be superb with lamb or venison. 90 points from Stephen Tanzer.
Wine review by Jason Kallsen, February 2013

Lifted cola spice, leather, tobacco, baking spices, and luscious fruit are but a few of many layers of scents gracing this truly Riojan nose giving way to a well built palate of juicy acids, textural tannins with all the scents swelling into flavors on a generous palate true to type, region, and the glorious tradition of Crianza Rioja. An absolutely exemplary Rioja, Sierra Cantabria does it yet again.

Expert Review

90 Points - "The 2007 Crianza was aged in seasoned French and American oak for 15 months before bottling without filtration. Smoke, leather, cinnamon, incense, and blackberry are some of the elements jumping from the glass of this smooth-textured, generously stuffed,
savory offering. Excellent volume and length suggest that this exceptional value will provide enjoyment through 2019."
