Boroli LangheRosso Anna 2011

The back story to this wine is interesting. In 2002, Piedmonte was coming off six grand vintages in a row but alas, the other shoe dropped. The 2002 vintage was full of hail, rain, and cold. Barely any vines produced barely any grapes worth harvesting. It was a disaster all the way around, but compounded for the Boroli family who was just trying to get their new operation off the ground. In an effort to make use of the tiny amount of salvageable grapes available, they blended them together and named the wine "Anna", the first girl to be born in to the family in three generations. The wine was a hit, and consumers asked for more.

Fast forward to today, and Boroli Anna Langhe is a cornerstone of the Boroli portfolio. Using high quality Nebbiolo grapes that don't make the cut for Barolo, they blend a bit of Merlot and Barbera to make a refreshing, bright, lively bistro-style wine packed with juicy raspberry meets bing cherry goodness. A light to medium bodied gem, perfectly at home with a plate of slice cured meats and yummy cheeses. The 2011 is particularly vibrant, and shows how the Boroli brothers (there are four of them) are dialing in the deliciousness of this wine.
