Moulins des Richards | Chateau
This wonderful little estate situated in Mombrier came into existence thanks to a passion nurtured by Gilbert Dupuy who, since 1956, has devoted all his energy to establishing the cru. He gradually purchased additional plots, expanding the vineyard little by little, restored the family buildings and installed modern winery facilities. His son Joël took over the estate in 1998. He has carried on his father's work with the same passion and determination, investing in a new, more functional barrel cellar and striving to establish a reputation for his vineyard and his wines. In doing so, he is carrying on the family tradition.
Bordeaux as a region is defined by its balmy climate and the rivers that course through it. Flowing east past the legendary appellations Saint-Emilion and Pomerol the Dordogne meets the Garonne on its northerly route just north of the city of Bordeaux where these two mighty rivers combine into brackish Gironde estuary on its northwesterly way to the Bay of Biscay and the Atlantic at large.
Along this final stretch we find on the left bank the famed and long established Grand Crus Classés (Great Classified Growths) of the Haut-Médoc -wondrous wines in their own right but arguably overpriced for their renown. On the right bank among the Côtes de Bourg however, keen eyed wine lovers find wines every bit as impressive but for a song.
