Lang & Reed Wine Company
John and Tracey Skupny, together with their two sons, Reed and Jerzy Lang Skupny, own and operate Lang & Reed Wine Company in St. Helena, California, founded in 1996 after realizing the potential of Cabernet Franc as a variety that can stand on it’s own. They have spent the last twenty-five years in various aspects of the wine business and the founding of Lang & Reed Wine Company was the evolution of a shared dream.
Two red wines are produced: Lang & Reed ~ Napa Valley, released one year after harvest and crafted in an imminently quaffable style, and Lang & Reed ~ Premier Etage Napa Valley released around two years after harvest representing a headier profile of Cabernet Franc. They try to create wines that express the unique character of Napa Valley Cabernet Franc. It is often stated that Cabernet Franc is all aroma and finish, possessing a void in the middle where usually a flood of fruit flavors should dominate. Through a combination of mature fruit, yeast selection and whole berry fermentation they create a fuller fruit impression in the mid-palate without dimisnishing either the aromatics or lengthy finish.
Every now and then, Lang & Reed produces a small amount of Rose of Cabernet Franc which is called ‘Wild Hare’.
